Spring always makes me want to throw open the windows and completely overhaul my house. I don’t know about you, but here in Michigan the winter months can make me wants to do absolutely nothing but sit under a blanket and binge watch Netflix. I always get backed up in cleaning and organizing at the end of the year. Maybe it’s because there’s less sunshine and everyone in the house gets a mild case of seasonal depression. Or maybe it’s because we get a waterfall of holidays and family dinners and putting up decorations, taking down decorations, more parties, gift giving, gift buying, gift returning, ahhhhcckk! I can feel myself getting buried under the to do list pile as I’m writing this!

But with spring comes sunshine, and an urge to dig ourselves out from under the piles we’ve made. So today I’m sharing with you a super fast and easy way to add to your organizational arsenal while simultaneously making your house prettier. So many readers complain about the lack of storage in their homes. But did you know the number one wasted space in your home is your vertical space? You can make a huge impact on keeping your house in check by adding bookshelves in your home. In our home we solved part of this problem by building our own built in bookshelves flanking out fireplace. You can check out that series [here] These farmhouse style bookshelves are a super fast way to add the same functional storage space without having to do too much DIY. and, of course you don’t have to use them for books. I would encourage you to use shelves in every room in your house. They are great for bedrooms, offices, living rooms, and any other space for which you need to add storage. Just buy a few decorative bins and baskets and you can throw whatever you want in them. This is an especially easy way to keep your house clean when you’re trying to sell it too.

Great collection of bookshelves! I’d take any of them, but the white one with glass is my fav!

[…] This week I wrote about my thrift store farmhouse table flip. You can find that [here]. I took an $18 table and turned it into a farmhouse table that seats up to 10 people! And just for a new pieces of wood and some paint & stain. TOTAL score. I also wrote about how to organize your home using the most underutilized space in your house. Can you guess what that is? Read all about that [here] […]
