How to get a Painted Wood Look
So the other day I got tired of staring at my powder room vanity. And I decided I maybe wanted to try a painted wood look.
Don’t get me wrong, there was nothing overtly wrong with it. But it was a builder grade pressed board laminate covered cabinet with no character to be found. I wanted a little upgrade, but I’m not quite ready to tackle a full vanity replacement at this time. I just had the urge to PAINT something. Know what I mean?

This is where I left the room after my $200 makeover. Believe me, it is a far cry from where it once was! But I still need to pull some things together. So let’s begin with the vanity!
Well, I came across this furniture makeover from my friend Lauren over at Bless’er House! Wouldn’t this painted wood look be perfect for my powder room vanity!?
So I gave her little tutorial a try. And It came out better than expected! I LOVE when projects go right the first time. It took me no time at all, probably two hours, to completely change the look of this vanity! And I think it totally changes the look of the space. The painted wood look is so much farmhouseier in here!
I also added some new hardware to match the new paint job. The pulls I got here, and the knob I found here
You may have noticed some other updates as well, like how I updated our outdated accessories in a matter of minutes… but I’ll share those another day!

It looks wonerful! I may be needing this info very soon, as we are house hunting, and in many of the houses I have said, “I could paint the vanity…” Thanks for sharing at #HomeMattersParty!
Wow what a fabulous transformation. Love how you painted your faucets also!
Thank you for sharing your project over at Waste Not Wednesday this week! Looking forward to seeing what awesomeness you share with us this week 🙂
I’ve been thinking of painting our bathroom cabinets. I think I need to now! Thanks for sharing at the #InspirationSpotlight Pinned & Shared
Wow! What a difference. I was thinking my one ugly guest bath would have to wait until I could afford to replace the vanity, but you have inspired me…I am thinking about it! Thank you so much for sharing on Celebrate Your Story!
Crystal that cabinet turned out beautifully! Wood-look was all the rage many years ago. I have an old rabbit dresser that I stripped wood look paint off of to reveal dark walnut. It had some dings and dents but otherwise on great shape. I think this technique is ready to make its comeback (everything old is new again 🙂 ) The timing is perfect to upgrade all the laminate and pressed board furniture being sold these days. Great job!
