Tiny homes with big style in Detroit! This past weekend I got the chance to tour some tiny homes in Detroit and I wanted to share them with you! These homes are being built by an organization by the name of Cass Community Social Services. Their goal is to build 25 tiny homes in order to help fulfill a growing need for affordable housing. The organization intends to rent these homes to various people in need, including formerly homeless, senior citizens, college students, and other individuals and families who qualify as low income.

The Cass Community Social Services team, a slew of volunteers, along with trained builders have already built 7 homes and have hundreds of applications to sort through. But why are so many people drawn to these Tiny Homes Detroit homes? Though these homes are tiny, they pack in big style, and a big impact in the community. those who are selected to live in one of these homes will have an opportunity to become home owners, possibly for the first time in their lives. Each home is meant to be rent to own for seven years. The rent is approximately $1 per square foot, and includes utilities and home insurance. So, if a home is 300 square feet, you’re looking at $300 per month for a home, utilities, and insurance. Plus, after 7 years it’s yours! And building equity is a strong way to end the cycle of poverty for many families.

So, do you want to take a look inside these tiny homes? I was able to tour 6 of the homes recently and took as many photos as I could! There were times when there were just too many people around to get good shots, people were in and out at a constant pace which was so great to see! But some homes have more or less depending on my opportunity to squeeze in and take some photos! I hope you enjoy the tour just as much as I did!

The first house on the Tiny Homes Detroit tour was this cute little blue home. The exterior has the most beautiful blue siding, black framed windows, and an architectural detail in the roof line that made it a bit modern. From the outside it looks as though it has a loft. The interior did have lofted ceilings, but I don’t know if an actual loft is in the plans. Some homes do have eventual plans for loft spaces, but I can’t remember if this one did. The interior had a modern beach cottage vibe, which I was totally digging! A stylish sofa that folds down into a bed, and a collapsible table set for 4 are just a few ways they made great use of this tiny space.

I didn’t get to spend too much time in this cute little red home since there were a lot of people in and out. This tiny home does have plans for a loft space, though it wasn’t ready when we toured the home. I took note of another adorable sofa that turns into a bed. I think this one had a twin sleeper sofa inside. The ottoman can be used to rest your feet, but also functions as a coffee table, extra seating for guests, and has room for storage. The cute little coffee table is actually a rolling file cabinet! At least that’s what it looked like 🙂

The yellow home in the Tiny Home Detroit tour was really a cute space! This time I got to get some photos of the bathroom. I love that the bathrooms are a reasonable size. This home had a standard tub and shower, others had a roomie stand up shower. This tiny home also had a separate bedroom, so the square footage much have been slightly more.

This tiny home had a bubbly, colorful vibe. The walls were this gorgeous teal, which popped gorgeously against the darker cabinets and sofa. what caught my eye right away was the framed art that said, ‘believe in your dreams’. It’s not a ground breaking piece of art, but it really had an impact on me in this home considering what this home is meant for. I just knew that someone else was going to walk into their new home and read those same words. And what a beautiful space in which to follow your dreams <3

This tiny home definitely had the modern vibe going on. The furniture, the kitchen, the bar stools, the art all worked together to give the space a fresh aesthetic. But those windows are what made me fall in love! The sun just poured into this space, making it feel so much larger!
Tiny Homes with Big Style: The Katrina Cottage

the Katrina Cottage has my heart. Of all the homes, I think I like this one the best! The blue tin roof, the gigantic porch, and the interior design was right up my ally! This one definitely had the biggest farmhouse feel. I would move in to this home in a heartbeat! I can just picture sitting out on the porch in the warm months, chatting with friends. Life would seem a little slower in this tiny home. And sometimes that’s exactly what we need.
I hope you enjoyed this tour of tiny homes with big style! Â If you want any more information on the Tiny Home Detroit homes, or how to donate to the cause, please go to the Cass Community Social Services website!
Don’t forget to pin this for later!

These are so cute! And what a great way to fight poverty in Detroit
These are adorable! I’m not so sure that I could live in a house that small, but the low payments sound great. Then to have them paid off in seven years. That’s Great! It nice to hear that an organization out there is thinking of seniors, and other low income individuals. I watch the hgtv show on tiny houses, but I believe that these have the cutest outside that I’ve seen yet.
