So a few weeks ago, I came across this really pretty mirror, and a tutorial on how to get the look without the pricetag:
This is actually the picture from her DIY project. She uses a vinyl cutter machine to create the letters. Since I have yet to purchase one of those (a Cricut can cost upwards of $200) I decided to knock off her knock-off. 🙂 For this, all I really needed was a mirror and a chalk pen.
Of course I didn’t have a mirror, so I decided to make one from some garbage pickins I had laying around. I had an old frame that was a creamy color, but I wanted to freshen it up a bit. I painted it a pretty light blue and then wiped some dark walnut minwax stain in some areas, sanded it to rough it up a bit. I happened to have a mirror the same size as the frame, so I just grabbed some construction grade glue and glued the mirror in the frame.
Sorry I don’t have many during photos. When inspiration strikes, it’s hard to remember to take pictures!
After I made the framed mirror, I simply drew on it with a chalk pen, which I found at Aco Hardware for about $6, and tried my best to mimmick the design. It took about an hour, and it’s not perfect, but I like how it turned out!
Here it is at the craft show:
The best part is that the chalk pen is washable, so you can choose to store it for next Christmas, or wash it off to use the mirror year round!
