Welcome back to my Home Office Makeover Series!
I’ve been part of the One Room Challenge
I’m having so much fun with this Challenge, meeting lots of fun and talented bloggers, and it’s really pushing me to get this room done! I can’t believe I have only one week left! ahhh!!!!! So many things to do!!
Ok, freak out over.
We left off on Part 5, where I showed you my solution for file storage:
I am loving the look of the crates in the office, but I haven’t done anything with organizing the files yet. If you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of dreading that part.
But today I’m here to show you what other kind of fun storage-y things I’ve done! And to reveal my new rug!
Come along with me as we tour my fun new office additions! (are you allergic to cats?)
First up is the new addition to the wall. I bought the rods at Ikea and gave them a once over with copper spray paint to match the shelves.
I had a little run in with my drill during the process. Consequently, we aren’t on speaking terms at the moment.
I added some thrift store mason jars to the rods by rapping some Vine Wrapped Craft Wire around the neck and creating a ‘hook’ in the back for hanging.
It was a lot less expensive than buying the metal baskets that go with the rods, and buying the ‘s’ hooks. I actually did buy the buckets and the hooks, but I’m returning them because this solution cost $6 total, as opposed the $20 I spent at Ikea.
The art hangers are also from Ikea. they were 99 cents, and I gave them a once over with copper spray paint. I’m not really satisfied with the copper spray paint. I think it looks more like an aged bronze kind of color than copper. So I might eventually repaint everything when I find the right paint.
This fun arrow art was created by gluing some $1.00 garden markers I found at Home Goods to a random wooden box top I had laying around. Someone gave it to me, I think it’s from a kid’s toy, they figured I could use it for something. So, boom, $1.00 art.
I bought this ‘mouse pad’ for $1.99 at Target. It’s a plastic place mat. But it works really well and adds a pop of color to our desks.
I also picked up this fun koi fish tealight candle holder at Target. I’m putting paperclips in it.
But the find I’m most excited about is the rug! Rugs are pretty much the bane of my existence in this project. I literally have rug burns on my arms from lugging rugs up and down the stairs, from the store and back, etc. And I got in trouble when, out of desperation, I came home with a $500 rug and opened a line of credit to save money. It didn’t fit and was all wrong and very heavy. Needless to say that rug is going back. But thanks to Target, I think I finally found the right one!
This is the Threshold Diamond Rug. The 7×10 was $200.

I honestly don’t know what was going on with Seuss this morning. He insisted on being in every picture.
I was super psyched to find this rug, because I wanted a natural fiber-type rug but I also wanted some pattern. I had another rug that was a jute rug, but had really cool triangles and stripes and fun designs, but it was too small. I actually like this one better because the gray-blue helps bring a little bit of feminine to the space, which I feel was lacking a bit before.
The coral pillows from Home Goods help add the feminine touch too. $25 a piece.
And it’s looking more and more like I’m going to paint the shelves. I think adding some copper will brighten it up a bit and pull the room together. What do you think? First I have to find the right copper spray paint.
