So I know the new year is upon us, and we all have those little things that we always try to do every year. I sat down today and wrote out some big goals for 2016. There’s a little bit of blogging goals, a little bit of life goals, and some career goals along the way.
1. Drink More Water
I know we’re supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day and I totally don’t drink that much. I used to do a lot better but I’ve kind of falling off the wagon here. My biggest problem is forgetting to take breaks when I’m in the zone. You know what I’m talking about. The zone where “it’ll just take a half hour” turns into 4 hours, and you forgot to eat. So I guess I should add eating regularly to my list. Be honest, how many of you reading this have to have your husband remind you to eat. wah, wah.
2. Cut out the sugar.
I know that I can’t actually cut out everything, but there are little things that I want to try to cut. No more sugar in my coffee. I drink coffee all day, and a little spoon of sugar in each cup really adds up! I’ve tried it before and I think it’s fine with just cream.
No more wine. No more white wine. I love white wine, especially Moscato with ice. It’s kind of my go-to drink for winding down at night. But it does have a lot of sugar in it. I don’t know if I want to cut it out for one whole year…
…maybe I’ll just do like one glass a week something like that. I’ll have one glass a week.
3. Fix my feet.
I can’t really exercise because of my foot problems, but I do want to get those taken care of. If I haven’t told you before, I am pretty sure that I have planters fasciitis, which is some kind of tendon that I can become strained. If it doesn’t heal it becomes worse. I have never had a problem with my feet until last January, when I began to experience pains after I had surgery for my ectopic pregnancy. That’s the only thing I can think of that that would cause this to happen because I’ve never had any problems before. I was very active, I went to the gym five times a week and did weight training. I want to get back to that eventually. So this year I am going to resolve those issues.
4. Get back on a Fitness Routine
Before my 4 pregnancy losses, I was using Jamie Eason’s 12 Week Trainer with fidelity. I loved it. I haven’t been doing so great with fitness lately because of everything else going on. But I really want to get back to that. Gotta fix my feet first I think. But I can at least eat better, so that’s step one.
1. Make a blog schedule
I noticed that I am kind of random with my blogging. I really want to try to write on more of a schedule. My problem with that is, because I am a DIY niche, I don’t always necessarily have something to post about. Tutorials take a long time with taking pictures of each step, editing, writing out all the steps, etc. It takes longer than posting about what I’m wearing that day or something like that. I also have to remember that there’s quality versus quantity, and I don’t necessarily just want to write a post to write a post. But at the same time, I don’t want to go weeks without posting anything. So my goal right now is to have at least one post every week. I really want to try for 2 to 3 posts a week, I still have to try to figure out what I’m gonna post about. And I need to create a balance, because I do have other things going on. I have my Etsy shop that I opened, my booth at the Antique Mall, plus I watch my nieces three or four days week. On top of renovating our home. So it can become a lot to handle but we’ll see.
2. Sharing more from my life
I want to start posting or sharing more personal stories. I know some of my readers really liked when I posted about about my tips for visiting new moms, and some others appreciate when I share some of my faith or life stories. I want to stretch myself a little bit and share more personal things with you. That might actually play into my weekly blog schedule. I’ll probably post once a week about life tips, experiences, or sharing my faith in some way.
3. Blog a Home Project Series
I have so many backlogged projects that I’ve never shared, and I really want to start sharing them with you. I’m thinking it will be a series that takes you from when we first bought the foreclosure, and every step along the way in each room. I feel like there are just a bunch of holes in my blog that I don’t share all of my projects. That has to do with the fact that it’s time-consuming, but I think it will be kinda fun to sort through those memories with you!
4. Build My Etsy Shop
Right now, I just do it kind of on the side with everything else I have going on, but I want to focus little bit more energy on actually creating original pieces to put in my shop and building more of a presence online. My other goal is to have my shop on my website.
I’ve already started an affiliate program to help with this. If you have a large Instagram following or Facebook following and you really like my work and you want to promote it, I actually have an awesome affiliate program. When you share my shop and somebody purchases an item from my shop with your coupon code, you you can get a percentage of that sale. If you’re interested in being an affiliate, you can send me an email!
5. Up My Photography Game
I have a Nikon 3100 I love it! If you are looking for a camera, this one is an awesome camera. I love mine but I’d like to use more lenses, play around with light boxes and all that fun stuff.
Another resolution I have is to declutter my house. I collect so much stuff, and I’ve been doing really good at figuring out which items in my home I really love, and letting go of the other things. That’s really hard because I like to save furniture that I find on the side of the road. But it does take up my garage and my basement, which is not so great. As much as I love to rescue furniture, my goal is to not collect anything else until I use what I already have.
2. Keep a Tidy House
We have been doing a pretty good job at sticking to a schedule to keep our house clean. I want to share our schedule with you soon! Part of that is continuing to clear out unused items. It’s so much easier to clean when there’s less stuff to keep clean! We will continue making progress in this area.
3. Clean Out the Garage
I want to actually be able to use our garage to park our cars in our garage. Right now we can’t because I just have so much furniture in there that I need to fix up or get rid of. Our garage is just completely unorganized. It will be so awesome when I am actually able to use it to park our cars! Gasp!
4. Finish Unfinished Projects
I’ve got a problem with starting projects and not finishing them before I move on to other ones. This year I want to finish my unfinished projects, too many to name! You should be seeing a lot more house project tutorials this year as I continue to complete them!
What do you think? Do you think those goals are reasonable? Do you have any similar goals that you might want to share?
